St Alphonsus de Liguori wrote, “The business of eternal salvation is to us the most important of all affairs, but it is also the most neglected by Christians.”

St Alphonsus Liguori, bishop and Doctor of the Church, Prince of Moralists, Most Zealous Doctor, patron of confessors and moral theologians, author of numerous books, and founder of the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer, whose members are commonly known as the Redemptorists.

St Alphonsus de Liguori was born at the Liguori family country house at the town of Marianella, two and one-half miles north of Naples. The noble parents, Don Joseph Liguori, captain of a royal galley and Anna Cavalieri, show a hard-driving, take-no-chances Catholicity in providing the first of their eight children with patrons. Born on September 27, 1696, he was baptized two days later and named, Alphonsus Mary Anthony John Francis Cosmas Damian Michaelangelo Gaspar de Liguori!

To help people hear that welcome of the Lord at their supreme moment, St Alphonsus wrote a book and called it appropriately Preparation for Death (available from St Clement ePress in iBook format). It is a ‘how to’ book, in which St Alphonsus shares with us ways to make sure that our supreme moment of death is a moment of intense joy and jubilation, not a moment of intense woe and terror. The plan of the book is simple: thirty-six considerations, each of which is divided into three points; thus there are 108 topics for reading and meditation and, hopefully, for decision and conversion. At the conclusion of the book he grouped several themes into an eight-day retreat, which is the basis for this Retreat App and added reflective Meditations for each day of the week available only in the App.

Every meditation combines the beauty of art for meditation and messages that are a must read and prayed. St Alphonsus was a lover. He loved God with all his heart, and he loved people with all his heart. He showed this love by giving his life, a long life of ninety years, to helping others come to God and to love him and to be prepared for death. The iBook and this companion App are perfect for retreat at home or on location, Adoration, daily reading and meditation. Don’t pass this one by! This App is a must have for everyone serious about growing closer to God!
